The Wood duck flew into a skyscraper and broke his neck. He is the most colorful of American ducks and belongs along the woodland streams in the South, not on the pavement.

These are BEAUTIFUL.

Audubon (the august Audubon) had to kill his subjects... But perhaps, as we are (hopefully) more evolved now in understanding the interrelatedness of all life and peoples, do we ("WE" as in humanity!) perhaps accept some responsibility in these birds' deaths?

If nothing else, we must realize the impact of our cities, and their beautiful skyscrapers - whose glassy surfaces are appealing to a human eye. But consider the point of view of a bird with these skyscraper houses of mirrors - where does the sky stop and the building begin? (Unfortunately such a lesson is hard to learn - and quite unforgiving.)
